Shiva joined our MAD community in Chennai and met his fellow, Akilesh. Akilesh and Shiva have had a great bond over the years. Back in the day, every time the “career conversation” would come up with Shiva, he’d always say “Nursing”. There was for some reason a trend back in the day there, where many young people around Siva, or even seniors he looked up to and hung around with were going for Nursing or operational medical jobs as career options. It could very well be coming from the fact that the medical field is a highly respected and glorified field in our country, and while it is a tough way to crack medical exams, and also a game of luck, a lot of people choose operational medical jobs.

Shiva, although did plan to take up nursing, but Akhilesh had a feeling that he might want to explore other options too. In one of their conversations, Shiva once brought up MBA. He was already doing his diploma in nursing though, and had also begun assisting his cousin on his business.

“Somehow, I had things working for me, but I still felt a void within, like I could try something else. If I was settled with my choices, that void wouldn’t have been there.”, Shiva mentioned.

Shiva was always asking Akilesh what he could study further. He then also took up a degree in literature while still assisting his cousin for a while. But the word MBA always lingered in his mind. He just had a mind block somewhere that it could be expensive or tough which kept stopping him.

“And then I thought to myself, what’s the worst that can happen? I will not make it. But if I don’t try, I’ll definitely not make it”, said Shiva.

And this thought, with some guidance from his MAD mentors and friends changed everything for Shiva. He applied to two MBA programs and made it to both. One was in ISSM, Chennai, but to secure his seat, Shiva needed to pay some amount. MAD helped pay that amount for his seat, and for the rest of his fee, Shiva applied for an education loan.

And, he’s now enrolled at ISSM, Chennai for a two-year PGDM program.

“It made me really happy that one of our youths would be getting an education on par with us :’)”, says Akilesh, Shiva’s MAD fellow, AND a friend.
As much as Akilesh can recall, Shiva is also the first Chennai youth to join an MBA when the most preferred path is nursing. Akilesh recently met him and other youths who were going to be part of Chennai Aftercare at Semmozhi Poonga. “While introducing themselves and sharing their expectations from MAD, old youths thanked old MADsters and told new youths that MAD will be there to help them. Shiva mentioned Vasu for guiding him out in TANCET. Even if you all are not part of MAD now, someone always remembers you for the good things you have done in the past.”, said Akilesh.
