‘MAD’elicious Christmas

By Divya Manoharan

December 16th, 2011 – a big day for all of us in MAD Coimbatore, so far! The Vivanta-Taj group of hotels agreed to conduct a baking demonstration workshop named ‘Santa’s Kitchen’, to support Make A Difference. The day we donned the chef’s cap and baked!

When the day finally arrived, all of us had an immense rush of adrenaline, surprisingly, even though we were in a mal-nourished and sleep-deprived state!

And so started the morning session, with recipes flying off the table, as the participants got to find out about  Rosemary Panacotta with Orange Compote and Chocolate Truffle.

The next part though, was the best part of the entire day. We played a video, “The Questions”, and then made a brief presentation on MAD .

After the afternoon sessoin, as a memento to the Taj, a collage of our kids from one of the centres, holding up a thank-you card, was framed and given to the General Manager. Thank-you cards made by our kids, were also given out to the participants. The enthusiasm the kids showed in making both thank-you cards, by the way, left us completely amazed!

After the session, the Taj team and the volunteers left for one of our centres, Sevashram Trust, to distribute Christmas cookies and cake to the kids. They were really excited to see us and the food on their plates, which vanished within seconds! After a small game and an interactive session between the children and the Taj team, we bid farewell to the kids and left feeling pleased! :D

Without doubt, it was one of the BEST days ever for the volunteers .. not because of the success of the event. It was the simple joy of being in each others’ company and sharing those MAD moments with our kids. It was the fun we had in planning and the joy of seeing our brainchild happen.

To me this is what MAD’s all about- shouldering responsibility, hard work, (sleepless nights!), love, and above all, the family-feel- the MAD family!
