Hours of bursting crackers. *Thhaaa :O!*
Days of feasting on scrumptious delicacies. *Yumm!*
Awesome loving family celebrations. *:D*
A month of grand festivity!
The brightest, shiniest & the happiest festival, Diwali was just around the corner! :D
The only problem..Diwali on a weekday! And that could potentially mean ‘no celebration’ with the kids! MAD-Delhiites just couldn’t bear this feeling, and hence donned up their kick-ass ninja suits and got on to organizing an awesome MAD DIWALI MELA! The kids from Arya Bal Griha, Daryaganj were in for a surprise on October 23rd, when they were thrown into a pool of games, foods, sweets, gifts and joy!
The ambience and the aura were perfectly matched, the games stalls had the game-arena feeling, and the fabulous prizes and the yummy food ensured the setting for an amazing Diwali Mela! Soon our high-on-energy boys were engrossed in physically challenging games like ‘Bowling Alley’, ‘Thunderbolt’ and ‘Break the Pyramid’, while some preferred the mentally enduring ‘Bounce’, ‘Stack ‘em up’ or ‘Cap n Carry’.
And with each win, a bonus ‘coupon-money’ gave the kids the power to buy their food or gift from the many stalls! But, wherever the kids went on to say “itna mehnga hai, yahan se kaun lega!” (It’s so expensive! Who’s going to buy from here?), we had to bow down in front of their might! There definitely was *something* in the air. Something not less than magic! :)
While our boys were too lost dancing on ‘Pappu can’t dance saala’ and bowling towards ‘sooper-awesome’ gifts and delicious food, our little angels in the Girls Wing were making pretty cards and designing gorgeous diyas!
Each diya they crafted was one of a kind, and the colors, the trinkets & the mirrors made them ‘Oh-So Pretty’! A much needed touch of glamour! :D
Diwali is not just about lighting diyas, bursting crackers and relishing good food. It is also about enlightenment of soul, coming over the darkness of ignorance and stepping into a cleaner, brighter world.
With this event, the kids stepped out of their cocoons, shed their inhibitions and enjoyed their share of Diwali bliss, which they truly deserved! And hearing, “Yay! Main jeet gaya! Ab main apne coupon-paise se khaunga!” (Yay! I won! Now I’ll eat with this coupon-money I *earned*!) we got our Diwali Bonus!
These little fun things also impart knowledge, you know! ‘Work hard and earn your own bread (and in this case, sweets and gifts)! You can do anything.’ MAD-ly amazing!!
*Mission-MAD-DIWALI-MELA* started off with lotta apprehensions, but the zeal and the madness our volunteers possess is unsurpassed. From heavy weightlifting, to sweeping floors, and even being crushed by our mad-MAD-kids; nothing diminished their fervor.
Their spark of *wanting* to have this celebration was enough to light the firecrackers that would brighten up the skies of our children for a long, long time to come!
There’s a saying that goes like this: “The sun does not shine there, nor do the moon and the stars, nor do lightning shine! All the lights of the world cannot be compared even to a ray of the inner light of the Self.”
So this Diwali, our kids and the MAD volunteers merged themselves in light of joy and created a picture-perfect memory, sealed for ages to come!
