The first thing we(volunteers) saw as soon as we entered CARDTS, was the many smiling and excited little faces who were all set to take part in the drawing competition. St.Joseph Engineering college , Mangalore had organised a drawing competition for the kids of CARDTS as a part of their inter-college fest ‘TIARA’ on 21st cotober 2011. Four M.A.D volunteers and 30 children, along with 2 SJEC students hopped on to the SJEC college bus at 10 in the morning.

When we reached the college , the kids were awed by the enormous SJEC campus. We were then taken to a room where magic was about to happen. The kids introduced themselves and this was followed by different games and activities. The kids learned an action song ‘Rise and Shine’ and sang to the tunes of the guitarist.
Then the kids played games like ‘bomb in the universe’ and ‘musical chair’. Next came the most awaited part of the day , the drawing competition. The kids were given a sheet of paper and crayons to draw anything they wanted in 45 mins. In no time, the blank sheets were overflowing with different colours.
Everybody was amazed at the imagination of the kids!! It was then time for the results. There were 3 prizes each in both junior and senior categories. The winners in junior category were given story books whereas those of in senior category were given pens.
It was  then time to have a walk around the campus. The kids sang ‘fire in the mountain, run! run! run!’, as the SJEC student asked them to make as much as noise as they wanted. The kids saw the college Chapel and other parts of the college.
When we came back after the long walk, it was almost time to get back on the bus hom. The kids thanked the SJEC students and boarded the bus. As we were leaving, one of the students said “These kids are so awesome! How I wish you guys came tomorrow too!”
When we reached the centre, the kids were still beaming with the same excitement and happiness unlike the exhausted volunteers!! The kids had a hell of a time at SJEC and so did the M.A.D volunteers :)
