Last July, 700 projects from 99 countries put down their names to be considered for the prestigious World Summit Youth Award.
In the month of August, a special panel of change-makers – 20 young leaders from 17 countries – sat down and started evaluating the entries.
The challenge: Finding youth-led organizations that are addressing UN’s Millenium Development Goals by spreading the word, establishing platforms and actively pursuing these goals through e-content.
It gives me immense pleasure to tell you that the panel selected Make A Difference as one of three winners in the Education for All Category of the World Summit Youth Award.
The WSYA selects and promotes best practice in e-Content. It demonstrates young people’s potential to create outstanding digital contents and serves as a platform for people from all UN member states to work together in the efforts to reduce poverty and hunger, and to tackle ill-health, gender inequality, lack of education, lack of access to clean water and environmental degradation.
The World Summit Youth Award (WSYA) is a project of the World Summit Award network and organised by the International Center for New Media (ICNM) as part of its activities within the United Nations Global Alliance for ICT and Development.
The WSYA is organised as a follow up activity of the World Summit on Information Society (WSIS) and its action plan towards the year 2015.
This year the Youth Award is organised by the World Summit Award Network for the fourth time after 2005, 2009 and 2010.

So, what happens now?
The winners of WSYA will meet, discuss and empower each other at a 4-day conference in Graz, Austria from November 10-13. I have the immense honour of representing Make A Difference at the event.
To our patrons and well-wishers, let me say a word of thanks. Your belief in us, and our dreams, have resulted in today. And when our work gets appreciated on the global stage, please do know that it wouldn’t have been possible without you.
To the fellow winners of WSYA, congratulations! I’ll be running into you shortly!
WSYA team, Thank you for this opportunity. My tickets are booked, VISA is being processed and my bags are almost packed! I’ll see you guys there!
And most importantly, 1000 MAD volunteers: This is your win! Make no mistake about it, you made this happen. You go out there day in day out and you change the world a little bit. You carve out more hours out of the day, you become superheroes for your children, you teach, you learn, you become role models, you become leaders, you become so many things. All for MAD. We don’t thank you enough for it, perhaps. But, when something like the WSYA happens, we’re reminded of how awesome each and every single one of you are! So, go ahead and congratulate yourselves for a job well done! :D
Oh, and yeah, don’t forget to say: GO MAD!
