The Mad Ultimate Challenge: Part Deux

Let’s start with a question. What does Air India, The Football World Cup and the Olympics have that Make A Difference does not have?

If you thought ‘athletes’, you are WRONG. Or maybe you’re right. But you did definitely miss the point.

The answer I was looking for, and hence the answer that matters, is MASCOT.

MAD. DOES. NOT. HAVE A MASCOT.

And some of us folks here at the PR team seem to think that it’s a pretty good idea to have one.

But what kinda people would we be if we did not ask for your opinion while finalizing on a mascot. Or Madscot I should say. And we want your Mad-pinion. Ok, no, enough of that. We want your opinion.

So here’s your chance!

The MAD Ultimate Challenge is back. It’s bigger. It’s better. And hopefully more productive this time.

All you gotta do is leave a comment below and tell us an idea for MAD’s mascot. We people (who cannot think creatively enough and hence asking you to do all the hard work) will sit here and evaluate the best ones.

Eventually, not that far away in the future, we will announce the winning entry.

And, the winner gets:

1. Credit for having come up with the Mascot.

2. Mad Merchandise (Including Tees, Cool Bookmarks and the like, and possibly a Mug)

3. A post on this blog exonerating your creative genius.

4. And most enticing of all, 100 points for your city when the Inter City MadComps start this year! (If you’re scratching your head and wondering what in the name of the Great Mammu MadComps is, talk to your core team members who showed up for the NatCon, and who did NOT sleep during the PR presentation)

So that’s it folks. Send in your bright ideas as soon as possible. This competition closes on April 6th, exactly two weeks from now.

Let the games begin!

Okay….here's one – What about a smiling child? This is probably the least original one, but at least it'll prompt people to come up with stuff!! Come on people….else 100 points in Mumbai's kitty! Prove that I'm talking too soon! :P

  2. says

I think it has to be something simple. Like maybe a pair of youngsters wearing the MAD tee? Simple and effective?

  3. vishnu_priya says

wat about a group of madsters from all over the different city giv fullon attitude pic of having guts to make a difference….

  4. Paul Francis says

How about a mad animal like the Tasmanian Devil…it can go MAD n run around…a crazy super-stick insect?

  5. says

An educated Tasmanian Devil! Interesting. I can just see that! But instead of destroying things, he makes things better!

  6. Mahesh says

I believe we can have multiple entries, so here are my thoughts on a mascot.

I would give the mascot, the name of “MADie” (or MADdie ??). I have kept simple things and objects, so that kids have a sense of belongingness with the mascot.

    1. A genie – Aladdin had one and it “made the difference” for him. We can say its not our genie but our “MADie”. Another character could be a fairy.

    2. A person like “Madie, the Teacher” (other professions include musicians, scientists)

    3. An animal – like a dolphin (known for its loving nature and intelligence), an eagle (for being sharp), a mouse ( though this one is cliched but maybe in the form of our computer mouse ?)

    4. An inanimate object – A pencil, a pen, a tree or even the smiley stress balls ( am I really going MAD here ?? :D )

    5. Celestial objects like stars, Sun, Earth, Moon…

I'll update if I get more ideas.

  7. Aruna says

Two madsters covering a pit using their hands and a child standing on their hands happily.

The idea behind this is if we let our hands down, the child will be falling down. We're making a difference by acting as a bridge :-)

  8. Rajesh Varghese says

Hii.. This is rajesh from MAD-Blore… How abt having someone like spongebob or Taz from the looney tone brigade?

  9. Vishu says

    Hi guys,

How abt having a teeny – weeny Bumble bee as our Mascot? We all know how, scientifically speaking, it is not supposed to fly, but it does any way. Our kids have a lot of talent which a layman never expects in them. Mad provides a helping hand to these kids. So, lets have this bubbly smiling Bumble bee sitting on the palm of a hand ( which symbolises the halping hand of MAD) A name is definitely important for our mascot and I pick this name as it is the most common name among the tiny tots in our centers – 'Chinna' . Any comment and suggestions are welcome..

Me. I'm mad nuff, and i look crazy. i'll get my papers ready as soon as we talk monee….
    ;p

seriously tho, im going with the tazz paul suggested. it's easily the most eligible candidate in this arena.

we can even call it tazza jose!!

Some more that I thought of –

    1) Sykal – A brightly-colored bicycle that stands for the hues of childhood, the journey into a child’s world. The wheels in motion represent the change (the diference) that we bring about in the kids’ lives. There could be an eye on each end of the handle. And it would be great to animate it if we were to make a video or something. Sykal is also the continuous process of improvement and growth. Complete with balloons and tassels , it sort of signifies the term ‘vehicle of change’.

    2) A Lump of clay – Initially shaped like a ball, this could be animated into lots of shapes. Again – an indicator of how we mould kids’ lives.

    3) A butterfly with wings shaped like books – showing the brighter, vibrant, colourful and lighter side of education.

    – Trupti, MAD Mumbai

  12. Saritha says

A SQUIRREL WITH AN ENGLISH BOOK IN HAND / A SQUIRREL WRITING MAD (to make it look like a teacher) – It is important that the squirrel has 3 lines on its back. It is linked to the epic Ramayana where a squirrel made its contribution to building a bridge to Lanka. We MADSters are small squirrels making our contribution to bridge the gap in the society :)

  13. nihas says

A happy super enthu kid with a book(mad logo on it) at his back which would look like wings ??

    I love it , I love it, I looooove itttt !!!!

  15. jithin says

Where do glo recruit these guys from !! Staking out @ the mall again?? Love to bumble bee Idea :)

  16. says

The lump of clay can be something like flubber? It can be anything! A book, a pen, a mentor to the kids (Bhaiya, didi) or whatever we want it to be. It has energy and emotions! :)

  17. shahnaz says

I know its totally disconnected from the idea of MAD, but I couldn't help think of MAD when I saw Wall E today. And in my head shot up the words MAD-E. :P (MAD Educating)

  18. shahnaz says

Another suggestion : A silhouette of a small kid, with two grown up's hands on each of his shoulders. The kid could be holding a book. Shows the support he is getting from us. :-)

  19. Krishnaraj Mahadevan says

Our Mascot should be called the MAD-Scout. The MAD Scout represents the disciplined MAD volunteer who imparts education and discovers hidden talents in children. The face of the MAD-Scout is a computer monitor, eyebrows are the darkened and widened letter M, nose is A and D rotated 90 degrees clockwise the smiling mouth. Body of the MAD-Scout is a book with letters ABC on its cover. The MAD-Scout holds a pen/pencil in its hand. The idea can be built upon.

  20. Kola says

He he.. As a matter of fact, Vishu was infact recruited in the mall recruitment only..

  21. says

SuperMAD: A kid wearing shorts and a t-shirt with 'M' on it, has a cape. (kid looks like Charlie brown from Peanuts ) And has a pencil in his hand (like a wand (?)) and is wearing a graduation hat.

The idea is that, He's super man for himself. Like, Kids are superheroes who save themselves (with the help we give).

  22. jithincn says

Thats it !!! Charlie Brown !! Why didn't I think of that before….or Calvin from Calvin n Hobbes…its perfect !!!

  23. Janice D'souza says

I was thinking of a kid that looked like Calvin too, but then the whole idea revolves around a kid and cape with a graduation hat :)

  24. fatema says

I was thinking of something simple. here are my two( honestly came up with these sitting in the exam hall and pennd down on the question paper… how useful can question papers be sometimes:P)

1.How about a globe with a long road and a small child completely lost and a manz finger holding his hand guiding him through his journey on the earth.

2.A ladder until the stars with a child climbing it and we Madsters holding it. Symbolising 'a helping hand to reach to the stars'.:)

PS: i know this is not exactly a mascot but this is my idea of a compiled mascot.

  25. MADTrupti says

Fatema!! Ladder sounds like a great one!! A ladder reaching out to the stars! Wow! :)

  26. Aditya Nigam says

    Hi All

    m just giving it a try :)

How about having an Apple and a Banana kept together
with a line written below (Do you know the difference ?? Then Make a Difference…)

It will signify “A for apple and B for banana”. Meaning its an appeal to the reader whether he knows how to read English ?

    Does it sound sensible ?

    Aditya Nigam
    MAD Bangalore

  27. fatema says

How about this.. a small animated kid with his heart and brain organs seen(his body can become transparent at these parts..lol) .. his heart with a happy smile and his brain so big popping out his head. It shows him being full happy and brainy.
i thought this could be really simple and a layman would understand.

  28. Amruta says

    Hey MADies? :)

My idea for the mascot would be to use the cartoon character = Daffy Duck. A crazy daffy duck = (mad), with a graduation cap on top of its head..? hm.. & it will say MAD on the graduation cap! Let me know what you think/ have any suggestions?

    – Amruta, MAD Pune!

Alright this is what we came up with:
    1) A kid climbing a moutain of letters and MAD volunteers pushing him up.
    2) A kid in a super hero costume and stands on a mountain of Letters.
    3) A kangaroo wearing a MAD t-shirt and instead of a joey is a small boy.
    4) There's a kid wearing a MAD tee and has a graduation cap on. And is leaning on a pile of books.
    5) A kid is holding a string of letters. The A-B-C-D.. is wrapped around him.
    6) A kid is hand in hand with the English Alphabet.
    7) A silhouette of a child and the Alphabet on him.

ok..dis is wat i could come up with..
    ” A tree with alphabets(except M,A and D) as fruits and a child climbing a ladder (made up of M A and D) to try and fetch d fruits(i.e, alphabets)”…

  32. jithincn says

Interesting…with all these ideas am sure we can come up with atleast some really good posters !!
