Yesterday , the 24th of December , we celebrated christmas at Pallu.
It was a large scale affair with volunteers, children and dogs present. A big thanks to all the volunteers from other orphanages who came over for the program. Having such a large turnout of volunteers really made the program special. The celebrations started at 3pm Indian stretchable time. Jithin brought his rottweiler pup Julie, a big hit with everyone.
We began with a match between the volunteers and the kids. Fr Sunny, the head of Sneha Bhavan, was the referee.
And so it was, a historic match between the MAD Mighty Warriors and the Pallu Pulverisers. The MAD team stood confidently on the field, ready to take home the trophy. Yes, there was a trophy, a glorious, shining trophy. And then it happened, the little wonders came out in their orange and blue uniforms, and over the next hour, exhibited their skill and agility. The volunteers fought a brave fight, but the game ended with a score of 5-0 and the Pallu boys were declared the winners.
After the game we moved to the lunch room. The children sang a malayalam hymn for us. Then father made a small speech. We had two new volunteers with us: Bimal and Meril who gave a wonderful rendition of a song, which was unfortunately drowned in all the cheering.
We had tea, coffee, cake and ice cream. The activities got over around 5:30. I had a really good time. We should have such celebrations more often.
