The More New New MadComps :)
Posted by Jr. in Volunteer Files... on January 23rd, 2009
(sigh) I know, I know, it’s not cool to keep changing the rules, but, hey, you want that grand prize at the end or not??
If yes, read up.. If no, take a minute, imagine what would happen to you if Sanjana finds out you haven’t been putting in the attendance on time, and then try making up your mind again…
Anyhow, I’ve been getting too many queries lately on what and how the MadComps are… I hope the following will make it clear..
Event 1 : The Unbeatable Blogger ~ 50 Points
This hasn’t changed since it’s inception. If your post stays on top of the blog for three days at an end, starting from 12 Midnight that day, you win !!
Eg : Post is put in on 23rd Jan @ 7:00 PM, the three days start @ 12 Midnight 24 Jan..
Event 2 : Magnum Opus ~ 50 Points
New event.. At the end of every month, the top five posts will be picked and put up as a poll.. Voting period will be one week.. The post that scores most wins !!
Last month’s winner was Bindia’s Holy Ghost Camp Post.. Way to go !!
Event 3 : Credit Crunch ~ 20 Points
The Orphanage with the highest credit at the end of every two weeks gets 20 points.. Mind you, it’s an average figure, so ask other volunteers in your orphanage to get their credits up too.. !! (If asking doesn’t work, try strangling them a bit)
Event 4 : Feeding the Feedback Forum (FFF) ~ 30 Points
Not in operation yet… To be kicked off by next week..
Orphanage with the highest percentage of Feedback Registration in the Orkut Community gets the points..
To be computed every two weeks…
Event 5 : Innovator Supremo ~ 30 Points
To be carried out every month… The five most innovative, most daring, most productive ideas will be put up for voting.. Voting ends after a week.. The winner gets the points..
Event 6 : AttenDancing ~ 12 Points
Attendance Registration for each class.. The full complement of points is 12.. If you put in all attendance for a week, you get 12 points… If you miss one, you get 6 (8 for STC and 0 for HG). If you miss two, you get 0 (4 for STC). Hope you got the draft.
To be computed every week.
So anyhow, we only have a couple of months more.. So guys lets get to it !!
I’m betting Pallu will lose big time this year..
The New MadComps….
Posted by Jr. in Volunteer Files... on October 12th, 2008
Most Mad volunteers were happy with the old system of MadComps we had… But, considering the fact that most Mad volunteers are teachers at the Palluruthy Snehabhavan Orphanage, this is hardly a surprise…
Anyhow, jokes aside, six months into this years comps, realisation dawned.. The brute strength of Pallu made it practically invincible… The odds were heavily stacked against the other orphanages, particularly those like Holy Ghost were class used to happen only once a week…
And, so began the saga of the re-evaluation and re-discussion and revamp of the MadComps….
But before I get into it proper, I’d like to remind all volunteers of a very important feature of the MadComps…
Yes, it is fun to be at war…. Yes, competition is good.. But, only…. ONLY as long as the competition is beneficial to the community.. So when you’re taking part, try and not be partial to your orphanage’s entries… Try and think of the common good… May the best man/woman/child/engineering student win….
From now on, MadComps will be dynamic.. There will be the fixed elements of course… But, there will also be certain events that maybe added as per the community requirements… Anyhow, here are the new rules.. Feel free to approve… If you really really really want to disapprove, feel free to hit me with your master plans to make it better… Here goes….
1. Most of us have heard talk about the online attendance management system. Well, we’ll get to see it now too.. Yes, it is ready… And, it’s going to be part of the Madcomps big time too… After each class, the batch head has to come online and register the attendance for that class…
Attendance Registeration within 24 hours —-> 10 points
2. Orkut Feedbacks… Our repository of classroom knowledge… In the old MadComps, each volunteer was awarded points for putting in a feedback…. From now on, the focus won’t be on each volunteer doing it… It is only essential that every class be documented..
To demonstrate, suppose me, Arjun and Sibi teach a combined class on Wednesday.. All three of us needn’t come online and repeat the same feedbacks… The class needs to be documented.. Hence, only one of us need to post.. Suppose, if the three of us had taken three different classes, then we’d have had to put in three feedbacks… Savvy? And points won’t be awarded to volunteers, but it will be awarded to orphanages that put in feedbacks for every class taken…
Feedback for every class within 48 hours —-> 20 points
3. The biggest event!! The Feedback Quality and the activities encompassed will be evaluated by esteemed member of the Advisory Committee, Mr. Noorul Hijaz Tharola, and of the entries, he’ll pick the best five and put it up for poll every two weeks… The community will vote and the winner will be decided hence…
Feedback with the most votes —-> 50 points
4. Ok, and here comes the interesting part…. The dynamic aspect that I was talking about… The blog... Yes, this blog, will also feature in the MadComps temporarily… To demonstrate how this will work, let me provide you with an example… I’m a volunteer at YMCA, and Rose is a volunteer at St. Teresa’s…. Suppose one day, I put up a post in the blog… The President and Hijaz go through it and decide whether it stays or not depending on the quality… Suppose it does…. And nobody posts anything in the blog for the next three days… If that happens, then YMCA will get points… All Rose has to do to prevent YMCA from scoring? Post something in the blog before the three day timeline is up….
Post on top for three days —-> 50 points
Anyhow, that’s it for now people.. Please note that this system won’t come into effect for another week.. So if you have any problems with it, get your say in before that, or forever remain silent… Peace…
