My first class.. :)
It sarted off as a normal day ( 
) , went to college .; attended 4 hours of class ( or sleep rather 
) ., bunked the remaining 4 hours just for MAD ( now that seems like a solid reason to bunk class.. 
)..
MAD day..
Reached Pallu SnehaBhavan @ 4:10 p.m ..! Saw Bindhia.. said Hi.. walked around.. made a few phone calls.. By then , it was 4:30.. Krishnan , SUmesh , Rocky , Nikhila and all the others were in the campus by then.! Out of curiosity , I ask Rocky where Nikhil( my volunteer) was .. And he was like ” He should be here any minute..”.. I was like “Okay”.. 10 minutes pass by , and no sign of Nikhil yet..! That was when it hit me ;, Maybe Maybe this could be my first day as an unconfirmed volunteer…
And guess what, it sure was.. Rocky asked me if I could handle the class by myself.. Well , I had to say YES coz I dint really have a choice…! It was just my third day @ MAD , so wasn’t really prepared for anything but Interning..! .. Nikhila walks up to me , and asks me to talk about Electronic gadgets..
The best thing of the day happened next.. There is this particular kid in my class named Akshay… he usually never bothers to sit in our class.. A very distracted young guy..! Before I walked into the class , He told me that he wont be coming in..! Well , as a teacher ( atleast for now ) , I tried my luck with advice..! I told him about the wonderfull things he could possibly achieve when he grows up into an adult..! I asked him if he always wanted to be small .. ANd to my suprise , he said NO and walked with me to the class… ! I never ever in my life thought that a kid like Akshay would be inspired to learn with a lil piece of advice..! Man , you ppl have no idea how proud I was of myself..!
Class Begins…
I started off by asking them if they knew what Gadgets meant..! No1 actually knew the meaning , though most of them tried their luck with guesses..! I explained to them what a Gadget is..! Then I moved on to Mobile Phones and the advantages of using them.. The latest features etc..etc..! We then talked about Microwave Ovens.. We then had a small session of sentence forming using the knowledge we gained..! Most of the kids did quite a good job..! SOme of them , overwhelmingly happy to be learning new stuff..! It was all smooth , untill something really bAD(???) happens..!
The Seyth issue.. !!!!!
There was this kid named Seyth , who was a new comer to the Orphanage.. He starts to throw stones on our roof..!! Suddenly , all the kids get distracted and start calling him words ( most of which I never understood ! ) Then with a lil bit of help from the volunteer I borrowed from 6th , I manged to get all the kids back into my class..! Well , I thought the problem ended there ..! But sadly it didn’t , Seyth comes into our class , and calls all the kids words ( In Hindi..! so I couldnt even Guess what the words meant ) , I think some of the words were also aimed at me.. ( ) As is obvious , it ends up as a verbal war soon..! To my relief , the new guy accepted defeat and left the class..!
“What do you want to learn” session
Later , the kids wanted to know aabout Hiroshima and Nagasaki ..! That wasnt someting I knew a lot about..! I just talked to them about Pearl Harbour..and the incidents that followed..!
In a nutshell , that was what my first class was like..! QUite scary but then , I enjoyed the experience..!
